The unfortunate RTC which occurred on Thursday 18th July, 2024 at the University of Ilorin led to the death of a student and injuring 8 others.
After we reported it on this platform, we agreed to send a delegation to visit the Vice Chancellor and Management of the University on the unfortunate incident.
Plea was made to members for donations in support of this course, some of our members responded positively and in a very surprising note some none members who were not even on this platform heard of our kind gesture and decided to also make their donations, we were able to raise the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand (150,000) naira.
Our letter for a visit received attention from the University and we were granted audience today 22nd July, 2024.
We were received at the University by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omoteso, Deputy Vice Chancellor Management Services Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali, Deputy Vice Chancellor Research Technology & Innovation Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, Registrar & Secretary to the Council of the University Barrister Yusuf Adeleke Afa-Nla.
We condole with the RTC victims and their families as well as the entire University community, we also presented a Cheque of the above-mentioned sum to the University on behalf of the victims.
The VC representative expressed the University’s appreciation for the kind gesture of the GSLSF, he assured that the donation would be used for the purpose it was meant for, he promised that the University will continue to collaborate with Good Samaritan Life Support Foundation. He said the University authorities will put all measures in place to address the recklessness amongst commercial drivers plying the school as well as enforcement of the 30km/h speed limit within the University environment.
The University presentation souvenirs to the CEO/Convener of GSLSF Kayode Orolu and other members present, the University’s visitors register was also signed and group photographs taken before departure.
